Madrid Deportes y Espectáculos S.A. (MDYE) has been the management company of the Palacio de Deportes of the Community of Madrid since 29 September, 2005, following its designation as adjuticatee of the public tender called by the Madrid Institute for Sport, Leisure and Recreation (IMDER). Said adjudication was made for a period of 7 years, until 31 December, 2012, and is extendible for a maximum of three further years.
From the time of its inauguration on 16 February, 2005, and further strengthened since the foundation of this company, the Palacio de Deportes of the Community of Madrid is an example of sports and cultural promotion as a result of the abundant experience in the organization of sports events, shows, and cultural and corporative functions of the firms which form the holding company: Recoletos Grupo de Comunicación, Arena Events S.L, Caja Madrid, Grupo Gamerco, Octagon Esedos and Grupo Trapsa.
During this time sports events of considerable magnitude have been held including the 70th edition of the Basketball King’s Cup, the European In door Athletics Championships and the World Taekwondo Championships, among others. On a musical level, the performance of artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay and Depeche Mode or events like the family show Disney on Ice have shown that this multifunctional building is outstanding for its exceptionally good acoustics, appreciated by public and important national and international music promoters alike. Large companies and trade fair organisers have also chosen the Palacio de Deportes as their base because of its versatility.
Equally as important as the quality of the installations is the formation of a good technical team and a group of suppliers who guarantee the satisfaction of the public and the organisers with their services: bars and restaurants, catering, car parks, merchandising, safety, cleaning& hellip; all of which are guaranteed by firms of recognised reputation such as Arturo Cantoblanco, Paradis, Central Parking System, On Stage& hellip; sports.
Due to its modern technology and the existence of different-sized rooms, the Palacio de Deportes permits the organisation of various functions at the same time. The different configurations of its retractable stands – one of which is at present the biggest of its type in the world with a capacity for 2,700 persons – allows seating capacity to be adjusted to the needs of each event in a short space of time.
With the combined effort of all concerned, we have to convert this Palacio de Deportes of the Community of Madrid into the most versatile multifunctional space in Spain and into one of the leaders in Europe.
