The Palacio de Deportes of the Community of Madrid has been designed and constructed as a multifunctional building with the capacity to adjust to the different needs of the events organisers. The Palacio, because of its different configurations, permits its seating capacity to be varied and adapted in a limited period of time to the changes required between events of a different nature.
This capacity for transformation is based on two elements. Firstly, its four telescopic stands, two of which are motorized, which allow the seating capacity to be increased or reduced in a short period of time. To give an example, with this type of seating the necessary changes are possible from a game of basketball one day to a music concert the next. The second element consists of its three fireproof curtains which allow the compartmentation of space and seating capacity, thus making it possible to limit interior volume and adapt it to the specific need of space according to the type of event.
The maximum seating capacity of the Palacio de Deportes is 16,000 spectators. However, for an event where it is necessary to reduce space, the seating capacity can be reduced to 3,000 persons. The use of these extendible stands allows a large number of configurations and gives the Palacio great versatility.
