The Community of Madrid, after the conflagration in the old Palacio de Deportes, has recuperated a multifunctional building for the organisation of sports, cultural and musical events which is outstanding in Europe. With regard to the remainder of buildings, its versatility and capacity for transformation as a result of the different possible configurations, convert it into a polyvalent space. From the time of its inauguration in February, 2005, it has been the venue for important sports events such as the European Athletics Championships, the World Taekwondo Championships or the 70th edition of the Basketball King’s Cup, which was judged by the ACB (Association of Basketball Clubs) and attending communication media as one of the best competitions up to the present time.
Another aspect which has been improved in the new Palacio de Deportes is the acoustics. International artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay or Depeche Mode have performed on stage there.
