Basketball In 1986, the Palacio de Deportes was the venue for the final phase of the World Basketball Championship which was won by the United States team. In addition, the Palacio de Deportes served as the headquarters of the teams of Real Madrid between 1986 and 1998 and Estudiantes from 1987 until the fire in the said Palacio de Deportes, with its court being the scene of great basketball matches.
