Palacio de Deportes

Madrid Sports and Entertainment Inc. (MDYE) is the management company of the Palacio de Deportes of the Community of Madrid since September 29th, 2005 after its appointment for winning the public contest organized by the Sport Institute of Madrid. This award was made for a period of 7 years, until December 31st , 2012, extendable for three more years.

Since its opening on February 16th , 2005 and enhanced from the establishment in this society, the Palacio de Deportes of the Comunidad de Madrid, is an example of the sports and cultural promotion thanks to the plenty experience on the organization on sports events, shows, concerts, cultural and corporative ceremonies of the companies that make it up: Recoletos Grupo de Comunicación, Arena Events S.L, Caja Madrid, Grupo Gamerco, Octagon Esedos y Grupo Trapsa.

During this time sports events have been held like the 70th  Copa del Rey basketball edition. The European Athletics Championship in the indoor track and World Taekwondo Championship, among others. In the musical section we find artists like Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay y Depeche Mode or events like the Disney Family Show On Ice that this multipurpose place enhances for its good acoustics highly valued by the audience and the big musical national and international promotions. Big companies and fair organizations and conferences have chosen the Palacio de Deportes as the venue for its versatility.

As important as the quality of its facilities is to have a good technical team and a group of suppliers that will guarantee the public and organizers satisfaction with their services: bars, catering, parking, merchandising, security, cleaning. all of them guaranteed by important brand names: Arturo Cantoblanco , Paradis, Central Parking System, On Stage...

The modern technology in the Palacio de Deportes and the different hall sizes allow having several events simultaneously. The different configurations of its retractable grandstands- one of them with a capacity of 2700 people and at present the largest in the world- , allow the capacity to match the needs of each event in a short period of time.

With everyone’s effort we have changed this Palacio de Deportes of the Comunidad de Madrid into a multipurpose space the most versatile in Spain and one of the firsts in Europe.

 

Sport events

Since the Palacio's opening, the new building became a reference place not only in sports but also in other types of shows. Basketball, athletics, gymnastics, boxing and cycling, without forgetting handball, they have been the best welcomed sports in the history of the Palacio.

 

Events other than sports

Already on 17th April, 1960, two months after the opening of the Palacio, the first show on ice was celebrated, and that has been a constant in the Palacio ever since. In the show “Holiday On Ice” the “Swarms Lake” was performed by Tchaikowsky (May 6th, 1961) and “Sherezade” by Rimsky Korsakov (June 23rd, 1966).

On December 9th 1987, a children’s show was shown on ice “Disney On Ice”. From March 6th to 10th 1996 in the Walt Disney show on ice  Aladdin musical was celebrated, dedicated in 1998 to Snowhite; in 1999 to Pocahontas, in 2000 to “ The Classics” and in 2001 named “Adventures in the Jungle”

On April 28th 1961 the World Jazz Festival was celebrated.
From 1970 and during various consecutive years, during Christmas time the World Circus Festival was set up.
